The TLGBTCC was started in the early 1990s as the Community Business Association, a private group to provide a place for LGBT business people to gather and find mutual support through networking. Over the years it has grown its mission to include advocacy, education and increased visibility for GLBT business issues within the larger community. In order to reflect this expansion of its mission, the organization changed its name to the Tucson LGBT Chamber of Commerce in 2005. At the same time, the organization opened its doors to straight allies.
